Can you downgrade from 3.0 GM to 2.2.1?

would you be able to use fuzzy baseband downgrader 3g? I have a 5.8 bootloader. Is that touched during the update to 3.0 gm? cause i have installed 3.0 beta 5 and downgraded back to 2.2.1 and kept my baseband 2.28 yellowsnow capable.
