According to their Education FAQs, they have to accept anyone who is currently enrolled in K-12, or pursuing Higher Education.

K-12 students are not eligible...check those terms again and you'll see that employees of K-12 institutions, as well as PTA officers, school board officials, and homeschool teachers are eligible. But not students.

(And graduate students are eligible...it all falls under higher education. I've purchased several machines in the EDU store through my grad school.)

My bad. I didn't read the whole terms. Still a good deal.

Last time I went in to an Apple store, they told me I could *use* someone else's EDU discount.

My mom works at a juvie center, and they have a school in it. Could I just have her come with, and have her brandish her ID card from there, so I can get the discount?

Probably because he was a high school student or a grad student. I think they only accept college students who are not grad students getting an MBA or PHD.

Actually it was an error on Apple's part. For some reason they didn't have the code in the system. I actually just got an e-mail from the retail location today saying they would rectify this.

"This was clearly an oversight on our part as there was some confusion when the new MacBooks were rolled out.
Bring in your receipt and we will refund the education discount to you."

Cheers,"

Yes. My family has done that before (although we didn't know that this was the case and we were a little bit more sly about it).

My MBP shipped out today. As previously mentioned, Apple EDU store never asked me for verification that I am a student. In fact, I am not a student at all. My wife though is. I planned on using her info whenever they asked for it.

So, maybe they do random checks like a previous poster said.

Reviving an old thread with a question.

I am looking at doing this as well, using a friend's student status. My question is how does this work? Does he have to pay for it, and will the computer and Apple Care package be registered in his name? I do not want that, I want it all in my name.

Any help appreciated.

Nope.

Well, I don't really understand your question, but all they SHOULD do is ring you up.

Registration and such is done at home online, as soon as you turn on the machine. Applecare, too, will be registered by yourself, online.

As long as you are pursuing education at a level higher than high school you are eligible for the discount. Medical school, law school, and anything in between is eligible. Or you can be a teacher.

Im going to College in November..
They sell MacBook Pro's to students, with all software needed for.....
AUS$500!!!
Fair enough the cost of the course would buy 10 MBPs (retail).. But hey.. Its still good!!
:D

Okay? The price of my college tuition, I could have made a down payment on a new house and be paying it for.

Okay, that is what I was looking for. One of the Apple Store reps told me in person that if I "brought a friend in who was a student", they'd give me the student deal. Sounds like that can be done online as well.

If he has to pay for it, I can pay him back without a problem. I was more concerned with the registration process, glad to hear that will not be an issue.

Now... to start the exodus from Windows to Mac!

You can pay for it. Just make sure your name is on the receipt, so if there is any discrepancy, you can show the receipt and say it's your computer. ;)
