Can you gift apps from the app store?

Hi, i just got a new imac and gave my macbook pro to a friend.
When i got the imac i got a £65 gift card free and was wondering if i redeemed it on my app store could i use it to buy an app and send it to my friend?

Unfortunately I don't think you can use iTunes/App store credit towards apps you wish to gift. Not 100% sure, but I tried it about 6 months ago and found I couldn't use my credit.

You gave him a MBP! Haven't you given him enough?! Can I be your friend?!

Anyone know if this is possible? I can see how to do it on itunes (gift an album) but I cannot seem to do it in the app store!

I like to gift a specific app as a Christmas gift. Is this possible?

On a side note, when you gift in itunes, can you use your itunes store credits, or does it force you to use your credit card?
