I type 80+ words per minute (wpm) on a full size keyboard, but I might only get half of that (at best) on the ipad. I find I also make far more errors, and I don't particularly enjoy typing on glass.
I have a lot of proper names and non-English terminology in my research, so the auto correct feature actually ruins my work. I had to turn it off.
I think the on-screen keyboard is just one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I am so happy that Apple managed to create such an elegant device. So, this is not a criticism of the device. Rather, I am pointing out the limitations inherent in the technology.
Of course, I can type on the screen, and I do it for short periods. However, for long sessions, I much prefer the bluetooth keyboard.
