Im wondering if its possible to highlight texts in pictures with pages. Im building a study guide for my upcoming anatomy and physiology test. I save pictures from slides in keynote, and paste them onto pages. One of them is the human heart with all the main arteries and veins labeled. Is it possible to highlight or draw attention to the ones I need to know? Thanks for the help. Mac and pages noob.

It depends what format the pictures are in, but it probably isn't possible, the words will be part of the picture.

Pages can't detect text that is part of an image. You would need an extra software to do that. You can try PDF OCR X which is free and works with both PDFs and images.

By your description though I'm not sure if you actually need to select the text or simply draw attention to it. If it's the latter you may want to insert a semi transparent rectangle and place it on top of the text in your image.
