Hey, Is there any way you can install the iPhone version of iOS onto the new iPad mini so you can use it as a replacement? I know you can use other VoIP services such as Skype to accomplish this but I do not want to lose my number. I was hoping it would be a simple fix but have not seen anyone attempting it yet.

Maybe PhoneIt-iPad might work. I read that it works on iPad 2 and 3, but in the description of it it says it doesn't.

No, making changes like that would require changes to the baseband as well, and possibly even hardware.
