I've found the ipad mini to be excellent, after briefly using a Nexus 7 with plans to hold out for the retina version of the mini... but i do use the mini in landscape for web browsing - and this is where the widescreen 7" tablets fall completely flat on their badly chosen screen size ratios - and i've compared our ipad 2 in portrait...

And, i need to hold the new ipad Air in my hands to check - I suspect it will be better for me , but I. don't generally carry it around with me... and the mini is just small enough while being big enough to be comfortably enjoyable to use.

So.... hands on will be the test, both are great.

One thing to consider is typing. I find the full size much easier for typing, both two hands and one handed. The keyboard is effectively the same size as the Apple keyboard when in landscape mode.

That's funny, I'm the exact opposite. I think it's much easier to type on the mini vs the full size. I'm primarily a thumb typer on all my idevices though & it sounds like you use all fingers to type.

Mini Retina...
It's the same thing on a smaller thus harder to read and interact with screen?

If it was pocketable then Id see a clear advantage but its not.

Absolutely.

1. One-handed use: The iPad Air is way lighter at only a pound, but the height of the screen will likely make one-handed use fairly awkward if not imbalanced.

2. Still lighter: 0.73-0.75 is still lighter than 1 pound and will be a noticeable difference regardless. For those wanting at least a simulation for how much the iPad Air will weigh, take a mini and a full-size iPad Smart Cover and it's basically right on par with what the iPad Air will weigh. It's much lighter than the 3rd and 4th gens, but still noticeably heavier than the Mini.

3. Cheaper: 100 dollars is a difference maker.

However, if screen size is the utmost priority to you than these points above mean nothing and go for the Air.

Agreed! I'm the same way. The mini is very easy to type on with my thumbs.
