While I'm not ready to give my real photo library to Google Photos, I'm definitely ready to get rid of my camera roll, give it to them, and then pull down photos as needed. Is there a way to have photos automatically deleted after upload?

Can you set up Google Photos to delete the local copy?

no. the closest thing to automatic i've been able to find right now is the hold swipe gesture to select multiple photos and then delete the local copies. at least you don't have to tap each of them...
