can you single click icons?

Hi guys, longtime windows xp user just switched to the mac, is there a way to click icons or folders in the desktop just once? Like clicking in the dock items?

I noticed when using an external usb mouse for the air too, safari acts weird when i click on tabs, something shows like Untitled, must be a bug.

There is no option for that built into the system
