So with the iCloud announcement yesterday, I'm re-thinking how me and my family has been using iTunes. My wife and I both have iPhone 4's, both have iPads, and both have iPods. One our our girls has an iPod as well. We have all been using one iTunes account for purchasing movies, books, music, apps, etc. With the iCloud, I really don't want to see Sponge Bob apps, etc.. always show up as available to be pushed to my phone or other devices.

So my question is, is there a way to create a new iTunes account name and import purchases (music, apps, movies) that have been made under my original iTunes account name? I would need to parcel out these purchases from one iTunes account to at least 3 new iTunes account names. Does anybody have any experience doing this? I'd hate to have to re-purchase everything in the new iTunes account profiles. Thanks.

I'm seeing a full list of everything from my iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone 4 show up in one big list. But it isn't pushed. I can download it if I want but I don't get apps forcefed to my devices. Hopefully this is the way it will work under iOS 5, otherwise, if I had a 64 gig iPhone and a 16 gig iPad, or even had 10 gig of non-duplicate apps on each device, I'd be in some pretty serious trouble.

I think spending money to solve a hypothetical problem is not called for. Wait for iOS 5 to roll out and if spongebob magically shows up in your face you can think about splitting accounts then.

r0k-

Thanks for the quick reply. I am seeing SpongeBob, etc show up in my list already when I click on the App Store icon on my phone. They are showing as available to download, but they are not, as you said, being downloaded automatically. I would simply prefer not to even "see" what apps, etc. that I know I wouldn't put on any of my specific devices. Just the shear differences in the tastes of music from me to my wife to our girls makes me shutter at the possibility of having to Kesha on my devices. It gives me a headache just thinking about it!!:)

Please Please Please, has anyone had experience with splitting one itUnes account out into multiple? Is this even possible? I sincerely appeciate your feedback.
Thanks in advance!

Years ago I ended up with two iTunes accounts, they were all the same except one was upper case and one was lower. When I spoke to the rep at Apple they said that they had no way of merging the accounts together. I would think that the same would be true for separation; not going to happen.

It might be possible

Could you use "Home Sharing" in iTunes to achieve this?

Something like this...
Set up new iTunes accounts for the others in your family.
Set up Home sharing to allow them to add your songs etc to their library.
Once they are on the other libraries delete them from yours.

My Daughter has pulled some music through from My library into her own account. I haven't got rid of it on mine, but don't see why that should now make any difference to her copies, (which are proper copies - not streamed from mine like the old, limited sharing).

Just a thought, mileage may vary
