Been dying to play this game for ages but would prefer a controller, will just easier for me to pick up and go - haven't game in too long.

I know you can use a PS4 pad, but thinking I'd rather get a PS5 one as I'l probably get a PS5 at some point and can use the second pad.

Or is it too new and too much of a PITA to work?

I'm afraid that I can't comment about the MBP via Bootcamp scenario however on a regular Windows PC the PS5 DualSense controller works with Doom Eternal.

There are various online tutorials (including tips from Steam) but basically you pair the DualSense gamepad with your computer (either Bluetooth or wired USB-C cable) and then enter Big Picture mode in the Steam desktop client to launch the game. It's not that fussy.

PS5 DualSense controller support was added to the Steam Input API in early December so theoretically any game that supports the Steam Input API should work with the DualSense. In a practical sense this is most games from the past few years. Note that this includes the macOS and Linux versions of the Steam desktop client.

Older games have a less likelihood of working with the DualSense but Doom Eternal works fine.

Also non-Steam games can be added to the Steam library and again the PS5 DualSense support should carry over provided the original game had Steam Input API support built in. Actual example: Epic's Fortnite can be played with a PS5 DualSense controller if you add the game to your Steam library (it must be launched via Steam's Big Picture interface).

I have a cheap Logitech F310 gamepad for titles that don't recognize the DualSense but for sure the new Sony controller is my preferred controller. I believe it will end up being the gold standard of videogame controllers for the next five years.

Brilliant, thanks Erehy for that full explainer!

As a side note, have you tried using the PS5 controller for any iPhone games? Think I'd love that. Never been able to get into touch gaming unfortunately.

While I have little personal interest in gaming on my smartphone I understand that support for DualSense and Xbox Series X gamepads is coming soon to iOS as it was introduced in the current iOS 14.5 beta as reported by MacRumors a couple of weeks ago:

So maybe sometime in early spring we'll see DualSense support on an iOS general release.

I have this mini gamepad for travel:

but it's not suitable for long gaming sessions. I've decided that it's more of a toy than anything else.

Thanks again!

Just ordered one, think this is perfect for me. Just hope some phone/pad holder accessory for it hits the market by the time 14.5 lands 🥰
