Not sure if this can be done, but here's what I'm hoping to do --

Say, my roommate has a movie playing full screen on the new osx HTPC I just built. And say, while she was watching her movie, I wanted to do a little more work setting up itunes and such.

Is there a way to vnc/screen-share with the HTPC from my macbook, but in a different "spaces" window than the one playing the movie on the tv acting as the HTPC's display.

In other words, have the macbook pro I'm using to vnc with be set up as a 2nd monitor?

No, not really. You can however enable file sharing and mess with files from there. Or if you know how, use SSH. That's probably your best bet.
