hi if i choose telus for my carrier when i set up my new ipad can i change it to another providers later like rogers or bells?

^ I got a 4g iPad but haven't activated yet as still waiting for my micro sim to deliver tomorrow. I think it's only worth it for ppl who don't already have a smartphone and data plan they can tether with.

It is worth it ;)

For those who are already using 4G on their iPad, can you recommend a carrier?

I was gonna go with Telus but apparently they don't offer the Personal Hotspot feature, which is essential for me.

I'm debating between Bell, Rogers and Virgin Mobile now. I am leaning towards Virgin because their customer service isn't as terrible as those other 2 and since they use Bell's networks, I still get that advantage.

Appreciate any recommendations ya'all can offer. cheers! :)

Rogers. they have Gsm,Edge,3G,LTE. check Fido, they use the same network. May be Chatr, same Rogers network be available with data soon. I lived in Toronto before and travel there on a regular basis. I never had anyroblem with Rogers. I cannot say the same about Bell.
I don't think USA model will work on Virgin. But I asked Apple, AT&T will work on Bel, Rogers LTE.

I picked up a Bell Sim to try in the new iPad while they have the unlimited data for $5 promo on.
Also if your a Bell TV customer you can get a bundle discount.

Checked my speeds on Bell vs Fido:

Bell/Telus nework with a dedicated sim 18mb/s,
Fido/Rogers network tethered 1.5mb/s .

And that was not even using LTE with Bell.

Guess it's always location dependant,
but where I tested yesterday the Bell/Telus network seems much faster than Rogers/Fido.
What I understand is when not using LTE Bell/Telus offers DC HSPA with is double the max speed of Rogers.

Bell also has the personal hotspot active.

Is it confirmed Telus does not offer personal hotspot?

If you live in an LTE area, it's totally worth it. It's faster than my Rogers cable. I'm on Bell LTE which is providing pretty good coverage around the GTA plus two months unlimited data. Rogers seems to be offering some sweet deals right now, though, but I think it might be on a contract

It is confirmed that Telus does not offer personal hotspot "At this time" according to a customer service rep I spoke to. No idea on when or if they will offer it further down the road.

I live in downtown Toronto so I am assuming the big 3's speeds will largely be the same.

Huh? I'm on telus flex plan for iPad and can do personal hotspot. You had to go to settings. General. Network. And enable it before it shows up.

Is it those on Telus don't have it as they haven't enabled it per the above post? I'm getting my Telus microSIM today and was going to call in to enable it, but I think without the personal hotspot, I might go with Bell instead.

I can 100% confirm the telus $5 flex data plan gets personal hotspot. Telus even confirmed it in their twitter site.

My iPhone has cellular off and is connected to my telus iPad hotspot as I type.

^ excellent! Thanks. I think I'll go with Telus then.

Really? That is amazing. Would you mind providing a screen shot? This potentially changes everything.

Edit: Read the Telus fine print and this is what it says

"2 Additional usage will be charged at 2¢/MB. Cannot combine with any other data plan. Tethering included."

Personal hotspot works on Telus

Confirmed. Just activated and connected my android and macbook air to the hotspot. Works great!

Question: If I use this in another part of Canada, say Ottawa. Does that count as roaming?

Yup, just saw it myself when you do as he says. I was used to seeing it at the root of the settings, but you have to enable it first. Then it shows at the root. Silly Telus/Apple!

No roaming for data in Canada.

Bell has 2 months unlimited data for $5 just like Telus does.

I found this thread extremely useful.

How difficult would it be for me to use a Fido, Bell, or Rogers sim while in Canada in a US unlocked "The new iPad?"

Obviously inserting the sim would be easy, but would it let me activate right from the iPad after having had the AT&T sim in it?

Thanks!
