Here are my personal experience with the battery replacement issue from Apple and its authorized service providers...

In the beginning of the year, Apple stated they will replace the batteries for $35 CAD as everyone know.... Therefore I went to an authorized apple service provider (AASP). I found their info on apple.com/ca... After waiting 1 hour there for them to replace my battery they told me that they failed to do so, because they broke the pull out bonding glue, so they cannot remove the battery, and told me to go to the apple store to do it.

Now at the apple store, batteries for the iPhone 6S+ is not that heavily backed up on orders, but I still had to wait 2 weeks.... Today I went in and gave my phone in and waited 2 more hours for geniuses to replace the battery... After the wait, they told me they had failed to do so as well... with the same reason, the bonding has broke. In this case, they told me if I done the repair first at the apple store, they would replace the whole phone for the same $35 CAD price, but because I took it to a third party (authorized apple service provider), there's nothing they can do....The best bet is to go back to the AASP and see if they can help me out (said the apple genius)

Just now I have returned from the AASP, and they told me to call apple at HQ and explain my situation... the technician ran a diagnostic test on my phone and said my battery is fine and doesn't need to be replaced... but we all know we can replace the battery even if it passes the test....

Overall this is such a frustrating process, my phone is so laggy and I only have a total of 5 apps (not including the OEM apps from apple).... I purchased this phone 1 month after launch back in 2015 I believe

Can anyone give me some ideas what I can do? I have a feeling even if I do call apple HQ, they will point the finger right back at the AASP... I'm literally stuck with a phone that cannot change its battery and will lag to its death until I can buy a new phone

UPDATE 1 - 1/17/2018

After speaking with a senior advisor with apple over the phone, here is their statement...

"It seems there's physical damage on your phone, so what you can do is either send your phone in by mail or go to apple store to fix the damage, but you will have to pay the fees. OR I can go to the AASP and tell them they have to cover the cost of the damage"

I asked the SA to provide me with an email stating the fact that the AASP has to pay for the damage, but they refused to do so... lol

UPDATE 2 - 1/19/2018

So after being on the phone with the apple SA, they were able to implement a code for them to switch to a another (new/refurb) iphone 6S plus free of charge. I was expecting that they were bound to do that because I had done nothing to the phone myself and it was all the AASP and Apple handling the phone... Anyways, for those who are going to do battery changes etc, please try and take it into the apple store instead of their AASP

I would first go back to the AASP that you took the phone to originally and explain what Apple told you and see if their willing to repair/replace the phone. Ultimately the service provider should fix the phone considering they broke the glue pull tabs in the first place.

You don't expect to get this sort of customer service from a company like Apple or any of their AASP. Seems rather stupid that they won't replace the battery if the glue pull tabs fail. Other repairers would probably pry the battery out instead.

Hate to say it but why would you go to an AASP? Why not just hit up the Apple Store first?

Knock on the door of the AASP and stay there until they replace the battery or your phone.

They've damaged your phone, it's as simple as that. This is no different than if they cracked your display while trying to fix it.

They're trying to kick the can down the road.

The apple store's genius bar reservation is all out for the entire week, so I thought an AASP is pretty much the same as apple, guess I was wrong

The phone isn’t damaged! Do they mean they’ve broken those glue pull tabs under the battery? If it is it’s uttetly pathetic Apple claim your phones damaged and is nothing more then an excuse for them to do nothing.

Very poor customer service. I guess you’ll have to go to the AASP, funnily enough I had a ‘genius bar’ fix something on my MacBook Pro once and they didn’t bother putting it back together properly, and APPLE TOLD ME to go to the nearest AASP! Says it all really, but then I’ve had good experiences with the, too.

I'm only hearing this through her, but today my mom was told by the local AASP (I used to work for the chain!) that they would be replacing her 6s+ battery with 'a battery out of an existing phone' because 'they don't have any batteries'.

I told her to cancel the repair (she had to leave it 'until later today or tomorrow') until they receive battery replacements, not ones they are pulling from another device.

I'd say, bite the preverbial bullet and go through Apple. You already had a bad experience with the AASP. Don't give them anymore business.

I sometimes find advice on these forums utterly confusing - when something goes awry at the AASP, then blame the user for not going to Apple first. If someone has a bad experience or a long wait at the Apple store, then blame the user and ask them to go to third party or AASP. If something happens at the third party, then blame the user and ask them to go to Apple first.... Its almost like a shell game.

If it’s just the glue strips wht can’t they gently pry the battery free? I’ve seen it done on many repair videos.. Sounds like they’re pulling your chain. I would continue to press the point with the AASP..
