I'm with fido and plan on paying full price for the phone. Can you even buy a nano sim right now? Fido says you need an "LTE SIM Card" for your phone. I'd rather buy it now instead of waiting until the phone launches.

I'm ordering a 32GB Black iPhone 5 from Apple.ca and praying I can find a nano-SIM card.

I'll be preordering an unlocked version from Apple.ca. My only hope is that is gets delivered by the 21st and not the following week. I remember I preorderd the 4S the same way, and it arrived at my door on the Tuesday following the Friday launch date.

See I'm worried about pre-ordering and it not arriving on launch day (because that will be a LONG weekend waiting), but I'm also worried that if I go to Apple and line up, I won't get one at all. Or if it arrives on launch day and I can't find a nano sim, that will be even more frustrating.

If I still need to go hunt down a nano sim, would it be better to just go to Apple on launch day and get a phone and sim from them?

I've done both in the past (wait in line and order online), and I prefer online. 99% of people get it on launch day. UPS has extended delivery times specifically for the iPhone, just to make sure you'll get it on time. If you're one of the first people to order, you should be good to go.

If you order online, nobody knows if it'll come with a sim or not. If it doesn't, you likely have to go to a fido/rogers/bell/telus etc and get a nano sim from them (or any store that sells their phones like best buy and future shop).

did the math... it will be financially beneficial to go with a apple store full price iphone in 16 months in my current situation with my current plan and early up fees etc... hmmm these things are so expensive :(

I am pissed that they increased the outright price by another $50, yes, $50 may not seem to be too much, but a price increase on sth. already very expensive (used to be $650+tax, now $700+tax) is just unacceptable. Almost $1000 if you want an iphone with larger storage.

I did the math too and if I break my contract and pay the fees I'll save $200 this year. But if I pay full price this year, I'll have an upgrade in time for the next iPhone in 2013. That will save me more money in the long run. I guess its better to pay a little more now if it means saving later. I just really wish we only had 2 year contracts here, 3 years is too long with the same phone :p

Ah, I forgot the price was $649 last year, thought it was $699. Wow, sucks.
Still, I will be pre-ordering on Apple.ca. I will worry about the nano sim after.
Anybody know if the phone goes on sale at midnight or what time on Friday? Thanks.

So I called my carrier (Virgin) and they said that the stores and kiosks already have the nano sim cards and as soon as my iPhone arrives I can bring it in and they will give me a sim and activate it for me. So I called a kiosk to be sure and I must have got someone who was clueless. She said that nobody even knows what the iPhone 5 looks like yet or who is getting it. When I told her its out September 21st she said "no they are just going to unveil it then, we won't have it until sometime in October".

I'm going to trust the Virgin rep from the call centre as she seemed to know what I was talking about at least.

When I preordered my 4S last year, it came on the following Monday (after launch day) - and you're right.. it was a long weekend! haha. This year though, I WOULD do the same... i would love to pre order to skip the line up... however my contract is up and it works out to be cheaper if I renew my Rogers plan... therefore... I will be lining up on launch day.. ack!

I just visited 2 Rogers plus stores and an Apple store. Not sure about the info I received. I want to order at least one iPhone5. I'm currently using a 1st gen iPhone with no data plan.

If I want to buy a subsidized 32gig unit, not sure whether I should:

1.) Pre-order through Apple website at 3:01am?

2.) Pre-order through Rogers Reservation system?
*Which I currently can't even access because their website is dodgy…

1) wouldn't work since Apple.ca only sells iPhones unsubsidized/unlocked, and not through any specific carriers.

For me, I will probably be pre-ordering on Apple's site, and also reserving one for a Rogers store for my sister to do her upgrade. My dad is wanting to upgrade as well, but he's not is as much of a rush so we can probably wait a little while for his.

I was planning to pre-order with Rogers but I think I may be SOL because my wife and I are currently have Rogers PAYG and if I'm understanding it correctly, only current post paid customers are able to reserve.

Rogers changed the early HUP (Hardware Upgrade Program)

In 2008, I got the iPhone 3G when it came to Canada. In 2010, I upgraded to the iPhone 4 because I was eligible for early HUP two years into my 3 year term.

So unknown to me, last year they changed early upgrade eligibility from 24 months to 30 months, and now I find out that since early May they’ve boosted it up to 36 months.

Now I have to pay $143 "Early Upgrade Fee" to get the discounted device on a new three year term. WTF?

I bet I'll even have to pay $35 activation fee and but a new nano-SIM too, right?

Grrrrr!

Woke up an hour late, but managed to get 175th in line for a Fido reso. Unfortunately, Fido has determined that it doesn't need to carry anything other than the 16GB model, so I've spent the rest of the day trimming my music/photos/apps down :(

If it weren't for iTunes Match and Photo Stream, I'd probably been lining up at the Apple Store next week.
