Hi.

Does anyone have a list of what apps are on the Canadian region of Apple TV 4? I know us Canadians have fewer apps than the US but was hoping to find a comprehensive list.

Thanks.

Exclusive to the Canadian App Store, and def not comprehensive as I'm not in front of the TV but...

Rogers NHL Gamecenter Live
Sportsnet (crashes on launch confirmed)
CBC News (can see stories, none play)
Shomi (works well enough)
CraveTV

Can add more when I return to the TV.

because we now use an app store for apps instead of them being pushed you can actually switchover to a us itunes account and download us app store apps

I can confirm this. I used my US account to get several US only apps then switched back to my Canadian account and the US apps remained on he home screen.

Many of them are useless because they're IP blocked or require a cable subscription, but some of them work perfectly.

QVC continued to work even though I'm not logged into my Canadian Apple ID. CBSN works 100%. CNN Go's unlocked videos work, many require a cable subscription. PBS works fully as well.

What's great is that your US Apple ID stays registered and it's just a few clicks away from swapping your account, going to the US App Store to get what you want and then back to your Canadian account.

I've got UnblockUS for US Netflix, and it gets past the region-blocking on HBO, etc.

Also works for my UK iTunes account, which I just created.

In the UK store, the Now TV app is a premium content package (and expensive), I've got a free 14-day trial (signed up with my Canadian credit card and the postal code of a pizza joint in London). Don't know if I'll keep it, but it looks like there's some good stuff on there.

But the standout is the UK "TVPlayer" app, which streams live TV for 30 or so 'basic cable' channels (all the BBC channels, food network, Discovery, etc). It's completely free, and streams flawless HD. Apparently this is just a standard service for the UK. Nice when you aren't saddled with a cable-company oligarchy.

I did the same thing for NowTV with the last generation. There were some good shows I discovered and the live channels were good too.

TVPlayer is good except the streams are pretty low quality, the feeds cut out after a certain time and the premium channels don't work (at least not with my DNS provider). My parents were born in India so the South Asian channels for free are also a huge plus.

I tried creating a UK account. Doesn't accept my Canadian VISA for the UK App Store.

To create US/UK/wherever accounts without a payment method, do the following:

1. Log out of your iTunes Store account in iTunes or in the App Store on iOS.

2. Change the region of the iTunes/App Store as desired.

3. Find a free app and 'buy' it.

4. When prompted for your account, choose to create a new one. You won't need to add any payment methods.
