I’ll be in the US this weekend and was thinking with the exchange rate it’s cheaper to buy the 8+ direct from Apple. If I did, is the phone sold unlocked and can I just pop in my SIM card from Rogers and be good? What about warranty? Should there be an issue could I deal with Apple in Canada? Again just an idea since I was going regardless. Don’t want any surprises after the fact.

Thanks

I do it all the time. Nothing to worry about. As long as you have Applecare+, the warranty will be honoured in Canada no questions asked. Although people have also not purchased AppleCare and have had no warranty issues in store either.

Check the model number of what a Rogers sold iPhone is, I'm assuming it's the "rest of world" model - Just ensure when you buy your phone from Apple, it's the same model. They sell 3 different models in the US I believe.

As for warranty, nothing to worry about.

I had my Sprint iPhone 6 replaced in Australia for WiFi issues, that replacement Australian model iPhone replaced in the UK for battery issues and that UK replacement traded in in France for an SE!

The original Sprint iPhone wasn't even in my name as the original buyer, as I bought it second hand.

Ok thanks. I've never purchased AppleCare before. How do I know the model is the same that would accept a Rogers/Telus/Bell sim. Thinking about resale when the time comes as my current unlocked 6S+ would be going up on Kijiji once I get the new phone.

When you buy the unlocked version in the Apple store it will accept any sim from any Canadian carrier.

The apple site lists two models. The A1897 works in Canada

Well it looks like the apple stores in the city I'm going to are all out of the space grey in 256 and wont have for 2-3 weeks. Any authorized retailer sell unlocked phones? or is that just through Apple?
