Companies price to what people can afford. In some nations there’s huge sections who are dependent on the generosity of customers for their income whilst others have actual laws dictating fair wages and thus can afford to spend more on a device. It all balances out in reality.

It really doesn’t. That would only apply to a handful of countries, like where I’m from (Norway). However, the price of the entry level SE is actually the same in Norway as it is in South Africa (~ $650 USD). Where’s the balance there?

Lol, here in South Africa a iPhone SE 2020 64GB goes for the equivalent of USD $643.

iPhone SE is currently sold for $399 US, which converts to $490 CAD.

Current price in Canada is $599 CAD. A full $109 overcharge.

Poor you, meanwhile here in Australia. 🙄😂

I was curious as to how to compares to prices over here in the U.K. According to google that's £370, less than U.K price for the SE! In my mind things were always more expensive in Aus compared to over here

Aussie vs US Prices:

12 Pro 128GB- $999 US ($1316.52 AUD)

12 Pro 128GB- $1699 AUS ($1288.95 US)

Don't forget that US prices are quoted ex-GST/sales tax. You need to add 10% to that US price to make it equivalent to Oz prices - although there's still a ~15% Straya tax in that lot (partly due to the fact that the AUD is up from 0.70USD to 0.76USD since the 12 was launched)...

I hear you :D
In my country, the official Apple resellers just announced a sale for the base 64GB iPhone 11 for and equivalent of USD $700! Yes, that's a "price drop," discounted price... :D

Now, iPhone SE is on market for more than one year, you can find refurbished or used iPhone SE for much cheaper price.

I would stupid to spend 600+CAD for new iPhone SE. It is just too expensive.

Search around Kijiji, if you are in Ontario. You can find iPhone SE 64GB for roughly 400CAD no tax.

Yeah, I wouldn’t spend 599 plus tax for new one.

If I was looking at a iPhone SE 2020 or XR, I would buy refurb over new as the price difference is so significant. like up to $250 CAD difference on the iPhone SE 2020, or up to $300 CAD difference on the XR. iPhone 11 and up, I would just buy new. (With the exception of the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.)

Thank you Six Four for this. In the UK we are getting absolutely bent over a barrel by Apple, and just after the brexit vote a few years ago, the pricing was even worse! But amazingly us Brits seem to be happy to pay these prices for Apple products regardless.

But aren't you guys at least get 2 years of warranty?

But aren't you guys at least get 2 years of warranty?
That wouldn’t have any impact on retail price though and covers most electrical goods, not just Apple.
Well we get the standard 1 year Apple warranty, as far as a i know and we are out of the EU so that theoretical 2nd year of warranty is now questionable.
I think it still applies to us as UK consumer laws haven’t been amended yet to my knowledge? I think we will be linked with the EU on consumerism and vehicle policies for the foreseeable future as we still effectively operate in the same region.

You should see the prices in the Caribbean too!

I'm Canadian. I know that what we pay is a bit more than the price in the States but it's still better than most, if not all, other countries. Also, if the difference matters that much, many of us can easily take a trip over the border and just buy in the States (when there's not a pandemic going on).

Nope, Apple HK does.

That's why you see in HK Apple Stores everyone travelling from Australia, Middle East, and even Canada buying there.

iPhone 12 Pro USA - $999 USD
iPhone 12 Pro HK - $1,094 USD

iPhone 12 USA - $829 USD
iPhone 12 HK - $875 USD

MacBook Air USA - $999 USD
MacBook Air HK - $1,004 USD

And unlike Canada, Hong Kong has no sales tax. So in many instances, it's actually less expensive than buying in the U.S.

I’d be surprised if the UK were to give up their strong consumer rights.

Wow yes it does look cheaper. But unless someone was already in HK for other reasons I don't see them travelling to HK just to buy an Apple product unless they got free airfare or were buying a ton of stuff. Especially Canadians since they could just travel to Alberta, Canada where tax is only 5%.

I have lived in Canada and the US. Current is US. Canada is more expensive to buy phones. Apple seems to set the price above exchange rates that are not current. They also never adjust the price as the US dollar falls. It really is not fair. But living in Canada for 40 years also taught me the government there hides an awful lot of taxes they put on products.

Here in New Zealand the 64GB SE is $750 NZD ($532 USD) so it’s not just Canadians who are getting ripped off
