cancel number port

My wife was previously on a verizon family plan with her siblings. She decided to get an iphone 4S and switch to ATT joining my plan and porting her number. The port went through but we haven't receive the 4S yet to activate it. Is it still possible for her to cancel the port and rejoin her previously verizon plan (assuming she re-signs a 2yr contract of course) when she gets the phone?

The AT&T iPhone will not work on Verizon's network.

I thought the hardware was the same and the only differences was the SIM.
