Canceled my Uverse TV, went with Direct TV (cheeper) , and my internet speed is a lot faster

I have ATT U-verse and I am NOT happy, but not willing to go to cable just yet. sadly no other providers in my area :(
That is the issue. Where I live in Texas, they have opened the electrical grid to multiple companies, a win for consumers. Apparantly (if I’m not mistaken), at one point there was a law that opened existing internet infrastructure to multiple providers, posted a link somewhere. This is what we need for competition. In my neighborhood, I have one cable company and I think one DSL provider. That is not adequate competition imo.

BTW you cannot watch all of your Direct TV PKG subscription on a computer, but you can on a iPad..

DirecTV has internet as well these days?

Ultimately aren't both U-verse and DirecTV basically just AT&T?

I thought they were - AT&T keeps trying to ram a package of their DSL and DirecTV down my throat. After years of Uverse debacles, I'm done with them aside from my mobile phones.

Let's make sure that we are all talking the same language.

"UVerse" can include TV (IPTV), Internet, or both, typically using ADSL2+.

"DIRECTV" is satellite TV only but can include Internet from a local "partner" ISP using various connectivity types such as DSL or cable. DIRECTV can include satellite-delivered Internet through a local partner but it's typically a last resort internet connection for those with no other hardwired options.

"DIRECTV NOW" is AT&T's new streaming TV service that competes with Sling, Playstation VUE, etc.

I recently dropped just the TV portion of my UVerse and then subscribed to DIRECTV NOW. Half the cost of my UVerse TV plan with more channels, more sports, and HBO Go. I tried Playstation VUE first but it really sucked because of the lack of a programming grid and a poor interface on Roku. DIRECTV NOW has worked well on two TVs through Roku and has a reasonable interface including continuing to show the current channel in the background while browsing for another show.

Yes it’s still ATT. I kept the Uverse internet and phone cause thats all I could get..but hey did bundle the PKG so I am paying a lot less..I never watched all those channels anyway.. Also seems my picture quality improved..I am happy so far..

that depends on how many people are on cable, nephew had cable and it sucked.

I use tenchis & sling now, wish I could record but I am happy as is

I use to have cable when I lived in a apartment, and every time someone moved in or out my cable would go off..LOL
[doublepost=1513789218][/doublepost]Yea I have Sling too, still testing it..

Uverse is IPTV so it streams through the Internet so I can see why your Internet would be faster if you switched to DirecTV.

Only good IPTV I've seen is FiOs. Their network is better equipped to handle the load. I've got 330 Mbps cable. No caps.

Edit: It appears our ISP now has 940 Mbps down in select areas. The previous next speed upgrade was slated to be in the mid 600s but it looks like they decided to go with a higher speed.

That's what I thought thanks for the confirmation.

I have never lived in an area where I could get FiOS but I hear good things about it. Perhaps my next move will be to an area with FiOS or Uverse GigaPower.

I have my internet with Uverse and TV with DirecTV. The new ATT ecosystem means that they send help really fast.
I have several friends who are in Texas and have Uverse Internet and one has TV as well and the other doesn't and from talking to them the more involved in the AT&T ecosystem you are the higher of a priority you are for service.

Don't think Verizon will ever bring it to us either. Business/Enterprise FiOS is available at our locations and they're our provider for services. The other choices, including numerous business only companies that offer fast fiber aren't up to snuff. We're maybe six years into with them and they haven't failed us yet apart from some major backbone problems that crippled network across the US.

I haven't heard anything bad about FiOS and hope to try them out myself!

My daughter is moving to a new building in Manhattan in March. One of their options is Fios. She's looking forward to having it. I know it will never be available in my area.

I hear great things about FiOS and plan on trying to get my next assignment in an area that has it.
