Canceling Apple iPhone order and AT&T upgrade eligibility

I have a 5s ordered through Apple shipping in October. If I find the phone in stock at a Best Buy for example, is it possible to cancel on Apple's website and the upgrade eligibility to be reinstated? Any idea how long it takes for upgrade eligibility to show up on the system?

some people say it takes 5 minutes. ATT will quote 24-48 hours though.

I just talked to an Apple customer service rep and she said that the eligibility reinstatement can take anywhere from 1-5 days. They only guarantee that they will actually send the request to your carrier within 24 hours. After that it would be up to AT&T.

It usually takes 5-10 minutes. No guarantees however.
