I have had a Netflix subscription for over 10 years now, but just cancelled due to the price increase.

I first subscribed back in 2009 or the beginning of 2010 and used my Nintendo Wii for the service. I ordered the Apple TV 2 when it launched in September 2010, and Netflix was a selling point. It came with some special (can't remember what it was) if you subscribed via the ATV2 Netflix app, so I cancelled the service on the Wii, and signed up using the ATV2 on October 9, 2010.

I have paid non-stop since then, with the only change to the account was the eventual upgrade to the premium tier for the maximum number of streams and higher definition.

Almost a year ago when the last price increase happened, I wanted to cancel my service, and planned on doing it after finished watching The Witcher, but got push back from my family. I told them that we have a bunch of other services, a huge collection of physical media that they can access via Plex, and that we would sign up for Netflix again, just not continuously like we were doing.

I caved, but warned them that after another price increase, I would cancel, and they they all thought that was fair.

This morning, I got the notice of another price increase, and cancelled my service one minute later.

While I think Netflix still has the best library of stuff to watch compared to the other services, I cannot justify continuously paying their current price, and I don't think I should be paying more for higher definition.

I am sure I will be signing back up at some point, but I think I will do what I do for HBO and Showtime, signing up for a few months, catch up on my favorite shows, and cancel for a year or two.

The question is, have you, or will you cancel your Netflix service, and why?

Tbh I only ever had it for my family. I personally don’t use Netflix much as there isn’t as much content that I personally enjoy. I’m also not a fan on how they only shove titles they want to promote in our face.

That being said, it wasn’t much of a big deal for me just to continue to keep it as long as the fam was using it. Now, not so much. It just doesn’t seem worth it to keep paying the increases for not much personal use, not to mention the fam seems to be using it most just to watch The Office lol and that’s leaving soon. I told the fam, if they want to keep Netflix they’re gonna have to take over payments.

honestly lately I have not found much content that i enjoy on it. I love witcher, ozark, mind hunter and the like but it seems like the seasons are only coming out once every other year or so and i just settle for old movies that i probably HAVE on DVD but am too lazy to get up and put into the PS. I also have Prime and I typically settle for a movie on there as i am just tired of looking and i look at prime last so it wins by default.

One of my kid’s friends shared their family Netflix with us a long time ago. Like, probably 2010 or 2011. We’ve been using it ever since.

My buddy who has Comcast cable service has shared his account login information with me so I can access things like Sports Hansel’s, news channels, etc. through their apps on my AppleTV.

My son has shared his Hulu password with family.

I pay for and share Disney+ with my family. I believe 4 simultaneous connections are allowed. Never had a max users exceeded message so far.

I got a free year of AppleTV+ when I got a new MacBook Air in august and I share that through family sharing with 4 people through family sharing.

Not bad that I pretty much get all of this for the cost of Disney+.

So, to answer, no, I won’t be canceling Netflix.

I enjoy the original anime titles so it stays

I’m very big on Anime (especially dubs) and will continue fork over my hard earned money to Netflix and Funimation (dispute some frustrations) to support the industry hoping anime will become a lot more mainstream than it is today... would love a cable channel

I only subscribe to one service at a time— during fall and winter.

I keep a list of acclaimed shows I hear about, what service they’re on, and what season(s) I haven’t seen yet of shows I’m already watching.

A year ago, this was one of the biggest things my family complained about losing if I cancelled Netflix.

I told them that I would rather buy The Office on DVD and add it to our media server than continue to pay for mostly just one show.

To me, it is stilly to keep one of these services for just a few shows when you could purchase them and save a lot in the long run.

When I wanted to cancel Netflix a year ago, but got push back because of , I started looking for them on DVD and found a local seller selling seasons 1 thru 6 for $1 each. I purchased them back in the summer, but haven't added them to the Plex server yet.

I will probably do it in the next few weeks since I canceled my Netflix sub.

I will cancel Hulu and use that money toward Netflix
I pay for Hulu with the Disney Plus bundle. I think it is only $5 or $6 with the bundle discount.

I used to pay for the Commercial-free tier, but lowered it when Disney Plus launched.

I think my family uses it, but I don't watch anything on it anymore and I hate commercials. I may just cancel Hulu as well, saving $24 a month between Hulu and Netflix.

I totally agree. Nowadays, when nothing is ever lasting on all the various streaming services, it’s worth keeping and buying physical media for titles enjoyed the most. It’s just a shame that physical media releases are decreasing.

My family just got Netflix again after not having cable for most of this year and getting fed up with over-the-air TV. The problem with DVDs are the menus/multi audio tracks and the remote always going missing. My dad doesn't think ripping DVDs you're going to watch only a handful of times is worth it either, so Plex is out of the question. Him nor my mother are very technical savvy to begin with.

I canceled a long time ago. Got YouTubeTV now and mainly watch that. My better half though will occasionally find something she likes on Netflix, so in exchange for adding my mother-in-law to my little 'family circle' or whatever it is, she gave us her password.

Can't.

I never subscribed, but I can give a story here. My nephew has been an avid Netflix watcher for a decade, but he's cancelled this month. When I visited him around Christmas of last year, he was considering cancelling it already but didn't want to just yet, as he was bed-ridden by a bad heart attack and had horrible angina. Netflix gave him something to watch, so he held on. He told me recently that he was ready to cancel at the beginning of March then lockdown started, so again he needed something to watch...

This month he got tired of the price increases and cancelled outright. I don't know what he's substituted it with, but I thought he would never actually do it. Good sign that Netflix is getting greedy.

Had YouTubeTV, but they recently raised their prices. Was not watching that many channels, so switched to Sling Blue. Hence, still need Netflix.

I really liked Knights of Sidonia, but I am unsure if that was cancelled or if it is just taking a really long time for a new season.

I might watch the series again before my time on Netflix runs out.

I also like the Castlevania anime.

Canceled...
Content is modern B movies, they feel like a commercial product made to keep you watching rather than creative content made by artist. They are losing exclusives as more studios create their own streaming services, and I find their productions questionable as if they have political agenda.

Unlike most people, I actual want to watch the archive library of studios rather than catch new content.
