For some reason, my cloud library in Apple Music on my iMac (running the latest version of Big Sur), my iPad Pro (latest iPadOS) and my iPhone 11 Pro Max (latest iOS) can no longer be enabled/synced.

On my iMac, I have enabled Sync Library in the application settings, but the library is not added. It tries to load it when I start the application, but it silently stops after a while. And if I try to add something to the library, I just get an error saying it cannot be added right now. I can however play music just fine, both local files and from Apple Music.

On both my iPad and my phone, I enable the sync in the settings, it (sometimes) starts syncing but after a few minutes it fails silently. And when I check the settings, the sync is no longer enabled.

I've been fighting with this since yesterday, I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of, on all devices, but nothing helps. Thinking it was my internet connection blocking something, I've even tried different internet connection. My conclusion was until right now that "ok, somehow my cloud library is probably screwed up server side, so I probably need support from Apple sorting that out". But tonight I remembered that there's a web player for Apple Music, at beta.music.apple.com. And lo and behold, when I log in there my library is just fine! I can see everything, I can add stuff, remove stuff, everything just works as it should. Even the local music uploaded from my iMac is available.

I have no freaking idea what to do here. Any suggestions are welcome.

I've now even done a full reset of my iPad and set it up as if it was a completely new device. But I still have the same issue. It starts the sync, some (old!) things show up as Recently Added, but then again it fails and disables the sync feature in the system settings, and whatever managed to somehow show up is again gone as the cloud library is removed. What the hell.

I've had some trouble accessing my iTunes Match items across machines... was wondering if it was just me. Wondering if the problem has same root cause as your cloud library not working. My setup was admittedly pretty wonky, my iMac is running 10.14/iTunes, and items are showing up in Apple Music on my 10.15 work machine. So.. to be honest.. I'm kind of expecting it to not work. Thanks for the tip about beta.music.apple.com, I was scratching my head trying to figure out the true state of sync process, that should help. Did you ever get your sync working?

No, I unfortunately still have the same issue. I've been in contact with Apple's Support on Twitter, but they are not of much help to be honest. Tomorrow I'll probably call the support, but I'm afraid I'll just end up having to talk to some local customer support person that won't be able to do anything else than to go through their scripts of what to ask.

And it's so weird, sometimes when I try to enable the sync on either my iPad or iPhone, some items do show up (until the sync fails or is restarted), but it's not current things, as if it's trying to sync from an old point in time.

Wow, all of a sudden syncing finished and my cloud library works again, after three days of constantly trying and failing. I hade pretty much given up. Finally I can add music to the library and not have to search for things every time I want to listen to something.

Woo! Well, this is old news at this point (sorry about that) but glad to hear it! I think mine might be working at this point as well, will check & see.

After I posted that, I realized I still had the same issue on my iMac.

But then I could finally resolve it by starting the Music application while holding down the Option key, which lets you select a library or create a new one. The latter was what made it all work again.
