Cannot attach input tray

My HP 3515 printer came with the input tray unattached. I am finding it very difficult to attach the input tray. Nothing is broken or damaged. There are no instructions in the user manual for this problem. If I put the right end then the left end does not go into the slot. I am afraid to apply excessive pressure because it might break the plastic. Kindly help.
