iPod touch Cannot Connect Ipod Touch to Computer

So basically my problem is i got my ipod touch chirstmas, ran to the available computer right there (eMac) and now cant get it hooked to my main computer my iMac, ive tried reformatting and everything is there a way to get it to hook to my iMac? What if i wanted to sell it the person couldnt be able to use it.
