Well, I’m now about one week into my new Macbook after switching from Windows 10 and I’m not totally happy!! I knew it would be different and there would be a learning curve, but I am finding that the simple, simple things just don’t work!!! E.g. I hit escape to back out of an Outlook email and it doesn’t work. I have to click the ’X’. Yesterday, I cut data to paste into a Word doc from an Icloud note and only got one character!! I lost that data!!! : d No more cutting for me! I use MS365 and I like the products, so I don’t want to switch to the Apple counterparts.

It seems the copy function is not working on Icloud notes. Cmd-C & right click copy do not copy anything bc I can’t even paste into the same Note. Is something wrong/broken on my Macbook? How can I copy from a note? thanks! Donna

ok i’m gonna reply to my own post. seems I just needed to quit the notes app and open it back up again ; )
it’s working. i knew that from years of computer use, shut down/restart is one of the first things to do when things don’t work…….but it’s still a lesson learned….

Ctrl-C gives me a tone that it’s not do-able
While that is the standard keyboard shortcut for Windows, it's not the same on Macs. For Macs, Command-C is used to copy, and Command-V is used to paste. You should definitely be able to copy and paste between Notes, Word, and Excel.

Similar to above, keyboard shortcuts used in Windows are not always the same on Macs. Here, you would want to use Command-W to close the window.

There's definitely a little bit of a learning curve involved when switching to a new OS. Here's a list of keyboard shortcuts for Macs.

thanks you, cmd-w worked! And I had updated my original post. Seems I was a little too quick to put that up - I needed to restart the Notes app. However, I appreciate your help and will check the support link.

@dmt43 And if you reeeally want to, you could switch the functions of the Command and Control keys in the System Settings. Then the Control key would do what you're used to. Could make things confusing, though.

Yeah probably it will!! I think it’s best to start learning the Mac way of doing things and burn some new pathways in my brain ; ) But good to know! thanks.
