Hi, is this normal? When I tried to delete a few characters using the delete key, I pressed it continuously. However, on my MBP 16", there is a pause of about 1.5 second before the next character is deleted. On the Touch Bar, I see some suggestions. Perhaps the system is waiting if I would choose any of the suggested words? Is there a way to speed up the delete like older MBP?

Does this happen in all applications? I do not see it in the editors I use normally Word, VS Code, etc. Also, none of the editor I use prompt for a suggestion in the toolbar so that may be the issue.

Yes, if I press and release and repeat quickly, I can delete quickly. However, if I just press the delete key once and keep it on hold, it deletes each letter slowly. At the same time, various suggestions on different words showed up on the touch bar.

Is it only your delete key, or is it the same with the other keys? If the latter, you may need to adjust it the keyboard settings in your system preferences.

I seem to have solved the problem by going to the Keyboard section of System Preferences and changed the speed of key repeating to max speed and time of recognition of repeat to shortest. Any disadvantages in doing that?

Not if you're OK with the speed. Most people prefer a slower speed so they can control better, but everyone is different.

This sound like your application or your settings are causing these suggestions to appear and slowing down the delete. In Word and numerous text editors I am pressing AND HOLDING down the deleted key. And it deletes not only the first letter, but one by one each of the letters. No suggestions appear in the touch bar.

Yes, after I changed those two settings, I can press and holding down the delete key to delete lots of characters without seeing lots of suggestions shown on the Touch Bar (delete is working so quickly that suggestions on the Touch Bar cannot keep up).
