I have tried, it's been 6 hours, and the download wasn't even half done before it effectively failed.
The estimated download time transitioned from 6 hours 45 minutes, to 1 day 12 hours, to 3 days 1 hour to 'Calculating...'. -_-

I had to pause the download so it wouldn't fail completely.
This is exactly the problem I anticipated when they stopped distributing the OS on physical media.

I can't do this, I need this file today, and I needed it downloaded two hours ago.

I downloaded mine a little over 6hr ago and it worked. Could it be your internet connection?

More than likely, the Apple servers are getting hammered, because a lot of people are trying to do the same thing you are.
Probably, but I've been waiting to get off of the GM Candidate ever since I accidentally installed it on the wrong disk, and I was hoping be able to do that today.

This wouldn't be a big issue if I was still running the latest version of Yosemite, because at least that was a release version.

Honestly, these speeds are unacceptable. I'd have thought Apple would have mirror servers set up for exactly these circumstances. They have to have known how popular their software is.

I was doing a fresh install through Internet Recovery and was in the same situation, estimated time was in days and after leaving it for 2 hours it was down to 6-8 hours. It also had a LOT of errors showing up.

I cancelled the installation, reformatted disk and started install again and everything worked just fine. Downloaded and installed in less than 1h30M

My internet connection barely reaches 5Mb/s on a good day, so overloaded servers are a MASSIVE problem.
I just don't have the connection to be able to compensate for an overloaded server.

Update: Download continued, but stuck again at 4.23 GB.
This is unacceptable.
While my connection is somewhat slow, it isn't this slow.

I was hoping to have this installed today, but now I am angry, annoyed and frustrated.
