    Hi guys,

    This is driving me crazy.

This problem developed several weeks ago. This problem would occur after several hours of using the computer, usually, when I wake up my MacBook Pro from its 'Sleep' mode.

I would be unable to drag anything. I could not drag tabs in Firefox, I could drag icons off and on to the Dock, I could not drag files and folders in Finder.

This problem occurs only after I use the Mac for a period of time. The only way I have found that solves this problem is to reboot.

However, I have used my MacBook Pro for quite a while. It was never like this. It could go on weeks without a single reboot or crash.

What has happened? I would much appreciate someone with an answer. I have googled and searched the ends of the forum without finding a conclusive answer. There are others who have encountered this problem but their threads went unanswered.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

    An additional note.

I am using a 2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM running off the default Apple Hard Disk with all Software Updates installed. Running 10.4.10

To solve this problem, I have reformatted my Mac twice! The same problem has still come back.

I have tried disabling all of my running applications but it still does not fix the problem.

    Programs usually running:
    Firefox
    Quicksilver
    VirtueDesktops
    Jumpcut
    SynergyKM
    TextExpander
    NeoOffice
    TimeOut
    iGTD
    Adobe CS3

maybe that won't help, but I noticed that dragging a file into the attachments-field of my mail client (opera) only works when the finder is set to display my files/folders as icons, if the view is set to list or columns then nothing happens... I wonder...:(

The problem has yet to arise but I think I might have found the problem from the "Console".

This is the error message in the "console.log". I didn't find anything yet in the "system.log"

The error messages are as follow:

To add to the above post, the error messages go on for very very long. The above is but a segment of its original length. In actual fact, the error message is the same "SystemFlippers: didn't consume all data for drag ID 128", it is just the numbers that follow behind are different.

The first thing I'd do is create and use a new account for a while, without the third party hacks installed, then reintroduce them one by one. The problem is without a doubt software related and confined to only a few users. Good luck ;)

    Update:

I have disabled everything mentioned above except Quicksilver (because it is impossible to live without it and it is impossible that it is the cause since so many Mac users use Quicksilver)

The only other running application that I MUST have on is Firefox. (Which could not be the case too since almost half of Mac users use Firefox).

Any ideas? I suspect it could be one of the extensions in Firefox causing the problem, but is it possible that an extension in an application could affect the entire Mac OS?

    yeah, I reckon.

I've read some scary posts about apps that overwrite stuff in the memory of other apps or even the os - shapeshifter for example seems to do some code injection into applications on runtime... are you running that or any other of unsanity's stuff?

I have puzzling yet comforting news.

I think it can be safe to assume that the SystemFlippers message and the drag & drop errors arise from Firefox.

I had booted up all the other applications/3rd Party Preference Panels with Safari for the entire day without any problems.

I'm still quite shocked that Firefox is the cause though, as it is both an open-source project and thoroughly tested. However, a search at the Mozilla forums & Knowledge Base does not review this problem; only a slightly similar problem from Camino.

I will try to identify the offending extension.

Any idea how to "re-install" Firefox?

My idea would be to spotlight all "Firefox" entires, remove the files in "Application Support" & "Preferences" in the ~/Library.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

I had a similar problem too. I could not drag files into folders and things like that on my SR MBP. My thread here not much information in it.

I did repair permissions and did reboot and I haven't had any problem whit that any more, yet ..
