So I'm trying to format my OS drive and reinstall my OS to Sierra, and I can't erase the drive even in internet recovery mode.

When I try to erase my SSD, it says

    Erasing APFS Volume File Content
    An internal error has occurred,
    Operation failed.

No matter what format I try to erase the drive to, it doesn't work. First aid fails too.

How do I erase this drive? Has anyone had this problem?

    Thanks

May be it's time to try Linux.

Use Gparted Live on USB mode, and ToRAM function should allow you to run it smoothly and format / partition any hard drive.

    OP:

    Do this:
    1. Download the LoSierra installer.
    2. Create a bootable USB flashdrive (with the installer on it) using either "DiskmakerX", "Install Disk Creator", or the terminal.
    3. Boot from the USB flashdrive/installer
    4. Go to disk utility and re-initialize the internal drive.
    5. Do a clean install of LoSierra
    6. Update as needed.

Are you booted into the High Sierra Recovery Drive. You'll need Disk Utility for High Sierra to reformat.
