I think I'm going to bite the bullet and give this a try today. Any final recommendations?

My plan is to take screenshots of all my apps and folders on my iPhone and manually reinstall all of them (this will take some time). I also need to backup/restore all of my app settings and I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to do that yet. I'll probably use iBye, AppBackup, or DataDeposit. If there's a non-jailbreak way to do that, please let me know. I don't plan to keep my iPhone jailbroken this time around, so it would save time to not do it in the first place.

Edit: I may use iExplorer and the method mentioned here:

Has anyone used it?

That's what I did. After the reset, I used iTunes to re-install the apps and to arrange all the icons. It was a little tedious, but it wasn't as bad as arranging the icons on the phone. It was nice to be able to drag icons from the alphabetically-sorted list of apps in iTunes to the home screen on the phone.

Since the reset, all the problems I was having before have gone away.

Good call. I'm about to do the same thing... and hope that it'll allow me to manually restore all of my app/game settings/saves!

Wish me luck.

Any update for anyone interested:

I restored my iPhone last night and set it up as a new device. I then began reinstalling my apps using iTunes. Once an app was installed, I used iExplorer to copy my backed-up app data from my computer to my iPhone. Surprisingly (to me), it actually worked! By moving the Documents and Settings (within Library) folders back onto my iPhone, the apps ran like I'd never even touched them. Perfect!

I still have a lot of manual work ahead of me (installing a ton more apps and copying the settings back to my iPhone for each one), but it's going quite well. Most importantly, my iMessages and push notifications finally work on 3G!

:D
