This isn't the hard drive that was causing issues in your emac is it?

No. This is my data storage drive i used it externally until my enclosure died. Now I am trying to use the MDD to back it up to a 200GB SATA HDD

----------

Something is corrupted. Do as it says in the Tuxera information window and run chkdsk from a Windows machine.

The only Windows machine in use doesnt have IDE or the molex connectors to use an adaptor

That's unfortunate.

You were warned a month or so ago that the various NTFS add ons for OS X were not exactly bulletproof.

I actually forgot it was even IN the NTFS format. I don't even need to write to it just read it

but with no way to hook it to a windows computer as the Inspiron 430 is SATA only and the HP is being a bitch to work with i cant get it connected to a windows computer to disk check it.

You can buy SATA/ATA to USB adapters on Amazon or Ebay. I have used them a ton and they work fine for things like this; I have used this one: Here

Might be worth the $18 to get your data off of that drive or at least read it on a Windows machine.

That thing is so overpriced. Look here:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...RS0&_nkw=sata+usb+adapter&ghostText=&_sacat=0

Even if the quality of those are worse then yours (which I doubt :p ) It doesn't matter if you only use it once.

Or you can get a SATA to IDE adapter which is even cheaper:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-P...480?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c82250608

Or you could get a SATA PCI card in your machine
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...r.TRS0&_nkw=sata+pci+card&ghostText=&_sacat=0

i have that exact SATA to IDE adaptor.... its hit and miss on it actually working though. Seems to always work on Western Digital HDDs yet only works on Maxtor/Seagate HDDs if you fiddle with it.

Far as the SATA card goes.... I already have one of those it uses the Sil3512A however the Mac OS X utility to flash it doesn't work nor did the Sil 3112 flash utility

----------

would the 4 ports on this SIl3112 work once flashed?
$_12.JPG

or how about the 3 SATA and one IDE on THIS Sil3112?

I've seen it where some drives for PCs simply refuse to format and are not really recognized (this is in my G5). when connected through a USB adapter they work fine though

no i meant put the pci card in the windows pc

I tried to install Windows 7 on the 40GB HDD i have that refuses to format and windows said it cannot use it.... my main hickup is that when i boot Windows 7 off my USB stick it says its missing device drivers (for the IDE Bus) and the problem with using Linux is that my Linux on the USB stick is 64 bit but the HP is a 32 bit computer

UPDATE: I found a HDD with a install of W2K still on it i stuck that in the HP and hooked up my 160GB HDD and instantly W2k is doing a consistancy check and is correcting a TON of errors will see how this goes

UPDATE 2: FIXED! After W2k did the disk check the MDD Now mounts the HDD just fine i am transfering my data off it now :)

You are right, those are way cheaper......but I know the one I recommended works on Macs, PC's, DOS, OSX, Windows...and a host of different brands of SATA and ATA drives as I have used it quite a bit over the last couple of years...:D

The one you linked is most likely a branded item of what you would find on ebay. You pay more $ for the name on it.
