I wanted to install MacOS Mojave on a new partition just to check it out. But I cant partition my internal drive using disk utility. I'm running High Sierra 10.13.5. I've included a screenshot of disk utility.

Any suggestions?

I am not sure of the technical side of this with it being your main system drive!
Firstly I would make sure you have a full backup, and I recommend putting beta software on a completely seperate drive.

I do have a backup. Also, this has been super easy in the past, I've done quite a few times, but not since APFS came around. Maybe something went wrong when this was converted to APFS from HFS+ Hoping someone can shed some light on this.
I don't want to run diskutil commands without some technical expertise from someone who knows whats going on.

With APFS, I don’t think you need to partition the drive. You simply add a new volume to the existing container. See https://support.apple.com/en-ae/guide/disk-utility/partition-a-physical-disk-dskutl14027/mac

That's exactly what I did (add a new volume to my existing internal SSD drive). My MBAir 13" mid 2011 is running High Sierra 10.13.5 and I wanted to create a separate partition to install the Mojave Developer Beta 2 10.14 on it.
I've been using an external SSD drive but it has been awfully slow. So I decided to do the internal drive route instead.
It's much faster.

By the way, my 2011 MBAir is not compatible with Mojave. But I'm using a patch from @dosdude1 to override the limitation. So far so good. I'm liking what I see on Mojave and plan on transitioning to my other compatible macs when GM is released.

Hope these info helps.

That's exactly what I did and it worked. But its still weird that I can partition my SSD using disk utility. I even booted into recovery to try and partition from there, but even that didn't work.
