Because my mailbox is flooded with spam and pornographic advertisement,
I downloaded and installed/run a trialware anti spam software.
From that moment, I could not receive mail.
Un-installing the offensive software did not help.
“Go online” in “Mailbox” reverts immediately to “Go Offline”.
Any idea please?
I know too little about Mac that I must request step-by-step instructions.

Multiple posts are frowned upon, but I'll bite. Try trashing your preferences. To do that, Open finder and map to ~/Library/Preferences/ and delete the com.apple.mail.plist file. From there restart your computer and see if that works.

Thank you Joe for your prompt reply.
I am sorry and apologise about the multiple posts, I probably
have here another problem as I am told by some friends
that they receive 3,4 copies of each e-mail I send them.
Now to the burning issue. I followed your advice, deleted the “com.apple.mail.plist” and restarted the computer.
The results are:
(i) My e-mail address was changed from syrose@netvision.net.il to
syrose@mac.com. I don't mind.
(ii) This e-mail address does not accept/recognise my password!
What am I to do?
And please, please how do I retrieve/import my previously received and
sent mail?
Sorry to bother you.
