Hi, I cannot rename my Hard drive on the desktop. I have already tried slecting, renaming, and 'Apple I' and renaming, and I get 'Error Code 8076'. The disk is not locked and I can rename other folders and external drives on my desktop. IMac running 10.9.5. I'm not referring to the 'home folder' but the Hard Drive icon on my desktop. It should be simple, but it's not. Any ideas? I simply want to name it 'Hard drive'.
Thanks, Jon

Try this:

1. Open Disk Utility and select your boot volume
2. Try the "Repair Permissions" button.

Also, this:
1. Boot from the recovery partition
2. Open Disk Utility
3. Select your boot volume
4. Click the "Repair Disk" button

That worked. Thank you.
