Backed up my old iPhone 6 a few days ago in preparation for new 6Plus.

Now when I try to do a restore, it asks for a password. When I enter my iTunes password, I get the message: "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "Named" because the password was incorrect".

I changed my password earlier this week because I had some apps that were on the xCode Ghost list. i have tried both old and new passwords. Can anyone give me some advice or suggestions as to how I can do a restore? I have some important info. that I need to access, so don't want to do a clean install.

I think it was also an encrypted backup.

You iTunes password can be different that the password to open your encrypted backup.

I know you know this but these passwords are case sensitive.

Do you still have your old phone to do another backup?

No. I no longer have the old one. I did the backup, then sold it to Mazuma.

I can't remember ever clicking on Encrypted Backup, or being asked to create a password.

Success!!
This might be of use to others in the future. I'm pretty sure I didn't tick the box for an encrypted backup, and certainly don't remember getting asked for a password. So what I did: Instead of trying to restore from the 21/09 backup, I used an older one from 17/09. It's now restoring.

Congrats. Hoping you are good!

Glad you were able to get it squared away OP.
I had a different issue trying to restore a backup on the new 6s today.
I had backed up my 6 on iOS9.1 beta and wasn't able to restore that backup file to the 6s. Eventually I figured out that I had to put the 6s on the iOS 9.1 beta and was able to restore it without an issue.
Hope that helps anyone else in the same situation.

[doublepost=1505011292][/doublepost]Sorry that I did that wrong. I was having this problem also. Try using a previous iTunes password if you changed it recently. I change mine a lot and that was what finally worked for me. Good luck.
