Cannot turn off Bluetooth

I appear to be unable to turn off my bluetooth. The option has totally disappeared. Have not a clue why. I'm running 10.6.4 on a Late 2008 Macbook.

Any ideas?

You should be able to turn it off in System Preferences > Bluetooth.
You may have to turn off connected Bluetooth devices before you can turn it off.

That didn't work, but I repaired permissions and restarted and everything is fine now.

Disaster averted. 😱
