Hi,

A few days ago my ipod went blank, when I plugged it in to my ibook and itunes opened, it said that it could not read the contents of my ipod and it asked that I restore to to the factory settings. I downloaded the latest ipod updater. I installed it and then I opened it. Both the update and the restore options were grayed out. It asked me to log into my machine to allow the administrator rights to make the changes, but when I log into the machine it still has the updates and factory settings grayed out.

Has anyone had this happen before or does anyone have any ideas for troubleshooting? Thanks in advance.

Is the iPod mounting on the desktop? If not, you might struggle to restore the device. I've seen this a few times and sometimes even if they mount, they don't show up most of the time. However, many seem to randomly spring back into life after a few days/weeks. Persistance is always the key. I would try mounting it on another machine too and running updater to see if that makes any difference.
