I've been using PE 2.0 for years now and just bought PE8.0 for my new MBP.
After doing File - Open and selecting a photo, the image doesn't go straight into the main workspace but instead goes to the bottom row 'Project bin actions' AND to the right hand side in 'Layers'.
I try to drag the thumbnails from these locations into the main area and nothing happens. I double click on the thumnails and nothing happens.
I don't know what is going on!
Do the default preference settings need adjusting or am I doing something wrong? Obviously I'm not used to the new features in PE but I'm frustrated that something as basic as loading an image is not working.
In PE 2.0 I just selected an image from iPhoto and it loaded straight into the main area of the screen so I could work on it.
(btw - I'm assuming that old versions of PE are just for the PowerPC Macs and incompatible with Intel models? I cannot install PE 2.0)
