Personally I'd rather use the device as I see fit, rather than being pigeonholed as a creator or a consumer by other people....

I really hope you're not insinuating that because I expressed my opinion that I'm for photography I'm 'pigeoning-holing' anyone, because that's pretty ridiculous.

Just because I think the iPad is an over hyped waste of money doesn't mean I'm right or wrong, it's my opinion. People are entitled to that.

I'd rather spend £600 on a camera that'll produce gorgeous photos, than spend £430 to create finger paintings, when £50 can get a Wacom tablet that'll do the same job on any Mac or PC (which the OP already has), or hell, I could just buy some children's paints and a pack of paper for about £5-10...

I would take a 5d II over a T2i in a heartbeat! The firmware on the 5D II was updated increasing it's video capabilities after the T2i was released and it's the only camera supporting Magic Lantern. I do think the T2i is great camera especially if you're interested in video. But personally with the T2i I would take the kit lens 18-55IS over a body and 28-135. The kit lens is sharper than the 28-135 and a cheaper alternative...

I would go for a 5D Mark II as well, but the OP may not want to spend the extra money for that when the t2i already has amazing functionality.

@StrausD: I'd LOVE to have a 28-135mm as it seems perfect. But they're currently going for about £300 in the UK. And I couldn't settle for a lens stuck at 70mm+ I need the wider angle too. Someone should develop a 12mm to 300mm :D LOL

I think Canon made a 18-300, but those things are CRAZY expensive!

Going for the kit is fine, but if you would rather have one all around lens, go to a few camera sites and browse around and see if there is anything you like at a good price.

Guys, I'm really beginning to push towards the iPad.. As it appears the DSLR is going to carry some hefty after-costs along with it, whereas the iPad will just cost me £10 (~$15)/Month for a 1GB Data plan.

Maybe when the 550D comes down in price, or some deal with a decent lens comes out, then I shall get it :p

Thanks very much guys.

I recently bought the 550d w/ 18-135mm kit as my first DSLR. This glass is versatile enough that I don't plan to buy another lens in the near future. It will probably give you more marginal utility than the iPad since you already have a macbook & an iPhone.
