Any particular reason why?

I love the build quality of the 7D and the advantages it has for still work, but they're kind of a push videowise.

i dunno .. i just have the opportunity to get it if i want it .. all i ear is people shooting film with the 7D or the 5DMII .. i do like the build quality much better on the 7D .. buttons actually feel like u pushed them .. the body feels much more solid .. dunno if i need the 1080 out as opposed to 480 on the 60d
.. i do like the movable lcd on the 60d though .. i dunno what to do

also this is kinda stupid but is the 7d getting a bit dated?

You sound like a DSLR newbie.

You would do better to spend your money on better lenses, a viewfinder and an audio recording solution instead of upgrading to the 7D.

You hear of more people shooting with the 5DII and 7D as they've been out a lot longer. Simple.

The 7D probably has another 18 months life before it's replaced. It's not dated.

Video quality should be (virtually) the same on the 60d and 7d, although I can see why you'd think it's only 480p. The resolution is somewhere between 720p and 1080p but looks fuzzier if you're used to a normal camcorder with deeper depth of field.

The 7d is very nice, but the reason it's got such a reputation for video is simply because it's been around longer. The other advantage it offers is high-def monitoring via hdmi, so if you buy a monitor for your focus puller that's a big advantage. If you don't plan to buy a monitor or hire a focus puller (if it's more for amateur type stuff) then it's not a big deal.

The other advantages of the 7d are build quality (heavier magnesium body), which does matter somewhat in terms of facilitating steady handheld, a major concern on dSLRs (cmos-induced skew makes shakycam look really bad), and a superior optical finder, which is only a concern for photos. The interface of the 7d is also really nice for video, though the LCD is no better than the 60d or t2i.

That said, if you plan to hire yourself out as a professional, having "I own a 7d" on your site will get you gigs owning a t2i or something won't, and a higher day rate, too. The difference in price is minor to most professionals, especially as compared with a red or something (which is a $20,000+ investment). I just have to deal with this until I can afford a 7d!

I agree. Get a good external audio system (Good mics and a recorder - although apparently not the Zoom H4n???). Get better lenses (more primes & and constant aperture zooms (I want the 17-55mm f2.8 so bad!)).

For the 60d I'd want a viewfinder that locks to a tripod plate. That way I'd have to use it with the screen closed, therefore not be putting any pressure on the joint. Although a rotatable viewfinder would be nice i suppose :p

Oh and a rig, follow focus and perhaps a filter matte box??

Jaguar, the camera doesn't matter, you'd be a fool to send the 60D back for a 7D.

It's all about the glass.

I have a Tamron 17-50 VC, Canon 50 f/1.8 and a Tamron 70-200 for my T2i, along with a follow focus, sturdy manfrotto tripod, 64 gigs of cards, battery grip, and lots of batteries because I went with the cheaper DSLR body. Don't forget to tack on another $300 or so on ND Filters.

I've screened stuff on Blu-rayshot on my T2i on a 10+ foot screen in front of a theatre of people, and it looked great due to the good glass used.

Don't waste your money on the 7D for the 1080p HDMI output during recording. A compact battery powered monitor will cost you a grand at least ; focus on learning the photographic language and getting good glass before getting a 7D.

thanks for your input .. i decided to keep the 60d ..
how do u like the battery grip .. does it add a lot of weight ?

thats a good deal .. the one from amazon is 1299 and only comes with an 18-135 lens .. might return it since i havent opened it and get it from there
I got my 60D from them. Just keep in mind that for me the charger was not UK plug (i think it's US (two parallel spades)). But Digital Rev did give me a free adaptor for the UK. They also printed out the manual in English which was nice (but I've ordered a real one from ebay). It is definitely the Hong Kong version. The difference being that digital rev does all they can to make it work for your country. I would totally recommend them.

The battery grip is nice. Adds some weight and gives you some more area to hold the camera. opteka.com for cheaper battery grips and check out cheesycam.com for cheaper hardware and tips.

You realize that it's from Hong Kong? Not saying that is bad, but it's more risky than buying from Amazon or B&H. Getting the lowest price possible is not always a good thing! I would be worried that they would send you a grey market product and it won't be covered by the full warranty. Or, if you had trouble, it might be difficult to return or exchange. With Amazon, it's a no-brainer.

Anyone have experience ordering from digitalrev.com?

Looks like someone's hacked the 550D firmware to shoot in 4K/24p!

That's going to annoy the Red users! :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBaXUKESZqc

yeah right:
2k: 175mb/s = 91 seconds of footage
3k: 175mb/s = 32 seconds of footage
4k: 175mb/s = 6 seconds of footage.
Note: Lowering the bitrate for 4k does not give you extra recording time. This is something that we have to work out. Also, you will not be able to shoot 4k in 45mb/s. It must be 65mb/s and above.

6 seconds of it... woop de do.

Yes. See my post above.

I would recommend them for the price. I would also now recommend not getting the kit lens.

Did you wind up with a grey market camera? You would know because all of the documentation in not normally what you would get with an off-the-shelf product. The warranty might be different too.

I got the kit lens when I bought my D90 and it's pretty crappy compared to what is available for a few hundred more. When I switch to Canon (soon as I sell my D90), I'm going with a body and fast prime lens.

No, the camera is perfect. I just haven't really used the kit lens, so i'm starting to think it wasn;t worth it. The camera came with a either Chinese or japanese warranty sheet. I still get the same warranty. The manual was printed out. Basically Digital Rev do what you'd have to do if you'd just bought a japanese model. Giving you an adaptor for the charger, and printing out the manual.

how weatherproofed is the 60d .. can u take it out when its snowing or lightly raining ?
I read it's better than the 550d but slightly worse than the 7d

It managed fine when i walked into branch covered in snow so...

6 seconds of it... woop de do.
They are working on it. It's a proof of concept.
EDIT: Oh dear they think it'll only be expanded to 10 seconds :(
But 60p in 1080p at 175Mb/s Bitrate sounds well good
Also Moire and aliasing "fixed"???
Anyway see here to interpret what you want: http://www.video-dslr.com/Canon-EOS-4k-Firmware-Hack/
