I made a post about a month ago on Wedding Videography.

I am thinking about getting a Canon HV 20 to film some concerts, events, weddings, interviews, etc. Do you think this will do for a beginner?

Also...I don't know much about lighting. What would u suggest for lighting to film a concert or event that is inside?

    Thanks for the help

The HV20 is a consumer camcorder, so it should do just fine. However, is isn't that great in low light so events that tend to be poorly lit (like weddings) will look rather grainy.

For concerts, you should have plenty of stage lighting - just use manual exposure (if that model offers manual exporsue).
