I am a very new MAC user... help???

I am trying to configure my Canon Mini260 on my new iMAC via a printer server. Unfortunately the driver is not listed within the listing. I downloaded the Canon driver from their website, and ran the .pkg file. I restarted the iMAC, but still the driver does not appear in the pull down menu ("print using").

With the help of Canon support, I found the "mini260.db" file (within libraries, printers.... etc). So I tried that. by selecting 'other' within the pull down menu. It does not accepted the driver. Can anyone help me? What driver extension am I looking for? I am a long time PC user and trying to figure this out.

For your reference, if I connect the USB port directly to the MAC, the printer works fine and references a "Canon IJ" driver. I cannot find that driver either within the mac.

Can anyone help give me some guidance. I think I am just thinking like a PC user. Thanks for your help!

Printing on OS X is controlled by the CUPS system. The standard network print protocols are supported by CUPS. But the majority of non-postscript printer drivers were written using the legacy Carbon interface - those drivers have the comm protocol built-in rather than using the CUPS standard protocols. In other words, most non-postscript drivers were written for USB ONLY. You'll have to find a CUPS driver to use the network printing protocols.

All the third-party CUPS drivers I know of are here:
