Canon Printer Drivers for Apple Silicon

Seeing discussion here about different problems with installing printer drivers working with the M1 chip, and generally little discussion about printing issues with Apple Silicon, I'm wondering if, when I get the new MBP 16", M1 or M2, in the coming months, whether my current, older, Canon printer (MX532) driver will actually run under Rosetta 2 or should I be looking for Canon to provide a new, ARM, supported driver? I'm not eager to buy a new printer, expecting it to operate under the silicon chip. As I also run Windows 10 under Parallels, can I anticipate problems using this printer and its existing driver when printing from 'the Windows side' ?

And so did my Canon printer TS 9020 (Apple AirPrint drivers) with my previous M1 MacBook Pro.

Thanks, but not knowing your systems, I was really wondering about the need for an AIM driver or does Rosetta 2 manage the printing throughput?

I'm on Big Sur with an Intel MBP and just installed a new Canon laser printer and just used the stock Airprint drivers and it works fine. So I don't think you even need to install the Canon drivers.

If it supports AirPrint you’ll get basic functionality.

The device specific drivers usually give some extra options, but I haven’t had to worry about manually finding those drivers for a while - macOS still seems to download them from Apple via the auto-lookup.

if the auto lookup works for your printer now it’s probably still supported by Apple on arm, but if you’re downloading it direct from the manufacturer, you’re probably SOL until they add arm versions, which is probably not happening for older models
