Thanks in advance for any help.

Just a quick question about getting OSX to mount the camera. On our nikon d40, plug in the camera via usb and the drive shows up on the desk top, can just drag the files off of the drive. With the SD870 the drive doesnt mount so we're forced to use iPhoto.

    Any help?

Canons use the other major protocol than Nikons to communicate with a computer. So they don't mount as a disk. That's just the way it is.

The only way round it would be if your camera supports changing it's communications protocol.

Edit to add: you're not forced to us iPhoto. Fire up Image Capture and use it's preferences to set the app to Image Capture: it's much lighter weight than iPhoto.

Thanks for clearing this up as I had the same problem with my SD870 of not seeing it mounted as a disk. I've been using iPhoto too. I did load the Canon software on my iMac, but I haven't used it as yet. Maybe I'll give it a try next time.
