I'm going to be in the market to buy and HD camera in the next few months and have settled on this one. But does anyone know if an update or anything is due out for it anytime soon? Or how long it's been out vs. how long they are typically out? Thanks!

Yes this camera is due for an upgrade. It has been out for a while and the last promo they had for it, they were offering $250 cash back when you buy one from an authorized Canon dealer. If you need a camera now, get it. Otherwise wait six months or rent a better one for your project.
