Does anyone know if it's possible to mix the audio from the on-board omni-directional mic on a Canon XL-2 with a secondary mic plugged in the back? I read somewhere that the on-board mic feeds into both the left and right channel like the mic on the XL-1.

Omni Mic

The Omni Mic included on the XL2 it´s a Everything or nothing mic, in other words, you can´t record any more audio channels except those from the mic to the camera in 2-channel 16 bit audio mode. It´s, Front or XLR only.

But...

Switch to 12 Bit audio Mode to record four channels, now you can record the omni mic in stereo (channel 1-2) and 2 more in the XLR connectors. I find this a very nice way to keep ambiance and a direct mic(lavarier, boom) balance.

Note: Final Cut can´t capture more than 2 audio channels at once from a dv source... Tip: Use a Media Firestore (expensive tip)...

Good Luck!

Gerry

P.d. Check page 122 on the manual for the audio block...
