I have installed Yosemite on a partition on my iMac and the folders in my home folder such as music, movies, pictures etc from my main Mavericks partition can't be opened. It says that I don't have permission to view the folder and the icon itself has a little no entry sign on the bottom right hand corner.

I know that these files and folder can be viewed across partitions as it works absolutely fine on my brother iMac who is doing the same thing I am. Mavericks main system with Yosemite partition.

I can't work out why it won't let me view these folders. Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Fixed it. I had given users permission to read it but not administrators. I take it administrators need permission across partitions.
