Hi all!

Several months ago I stopped being able to attach photos to my email, or anything else for that matter. I'm able to attach the whole Photos folder, but that's obviously not what I want. I pick up this problem every couple of months and try to fix it, but with not a lot of success. I've done a search many times and queried Reddit and still nothing.

I've tried to change the view, which doesn't have any affect. In iMovie or Photoshop I can insert/attach that whole folder but not individual files. It seems like it's a privilege issue, but I've made sure I've got privileges on that folder. I can also access the Photos library directly from the app. However, it would be nice to not have to go to the app every time I want to attach a photo or have to save it on my desktop first. Probably related is that I don't use my admin profile I use another profile for day to day use.

I can solve most of my problems, but I can do nothing with this. For the love of all that is good and holy, please help.

Thanks loads!

I am new to using a MacBook and photos for that matter too, but I was noticing the same thing. I have to go into photos, highlight/ select the pictures I want to email, select export from the top menu bar, then I export them to the desktop and I can do whatever with them then.
If there's a better way I'd LOVE TO KNOW TOO.

There are several way to get your photos into an email. If you already have photos open just select the photos like you have been doing but Drag to the dock and drop on the Mail icon, it will open with the photos already in it. If you have the email already started you can drag and drop your photos in to it any where you want then to appear. If the photos are very large you will seen in the email header where you can change the size to something better suited to email. You can also add photos from the email by clicking on the Paper Clip near the top of your email. It will open up a Finder sheet, scroll down in the side bar and you will see Media and under it will be Music, Photos and Movies. Click on Photos and it will open up in your Photos where you can search for the photos by scrolling in all the photos or Albums. You can also use the Search bar at the top right of that Finder sheet to search for the photos by Name, Place, Date, Keyword or any info you may have added to the photos.

There is a better way. I used to be able to simply attach files up until a few months ago. I don't know if it was an update, or I was messing with the settings, but there is a better way. Let's just hope that someone knows what the solution is.

Thanks for the tips there. I will have to get more familiar with the mail app then it seems, I typically use chrome, and send emails right from the gmail.com site. But maybe I'll try that next.

I misread the previous post and reply to it, so I am now editing that post.

Yes, I've had the same issue-seems pretty ridiculous to me. Previously I had iPhoto, which hsd flaws, but was fairly straight forward with emails. If I started an email, then wanted to attach a photo, I just clicked on the paper clip, and opened iPhoto, selected the event, then the photo, etc. But although Photos shows as a choice on the attachment list, it either doesn't open, wants to attach the whole Photos file, or lists all these weird things, that aren't photos...supposedly this is an upgrade-Photos; seems like a big downgrade to me

When you click the paper clip and and then click on the Photos.app you just told it you wanted to attach the Photos.app to the email, it doesn't know you want to add some photos. After you click on the Paper clip scroll down in the side bar to where it list Media and select Photos from there.

Yes, thanks- for some reason the sidebar wan't showing, once I realized that, I was able to do it. It's still less convenient than iphotos, since I have to scroll thru all the photos, rather than just an event, but at least I can do it-thanks...

Click on Photos and it will open up in your Photos where you can search for the photos by scrolling in all the photos or Albums.
When I click on Photos nothing appears (gray on top half of screen split and white on the bottom). I used to be able to select an album and easily attach photos from the album to emails or upload pictures from the album to photo printing sites. Now I can't access anything in Photos. Thoughts on what happened here? Thanks for any tips you can provide!

I have the same problem! It's driving me nuts. I can no longer accress photos when I click on the paper clip. Just a few pictures are available and the names of the albums are there but there are no pictures. I have the same problem if I want to upload photos to any other platform. I would love to hear if someone has a solution to this?
When I try and attach photos all I get is that little wheel turning - forever...

first method works by dragging the photo to the mail icon on doc. the method of clicking on the paperclip and then on photos does nothing. Is there something I can do? This used to work on my old macbook air but not since upgrading and transferring all my info from the old mac.
