I've switched my external HD from local to my Airport Extreme. I have to start a new backup since you can't move the location of the drive like that and use the same backup.

So, since I can hook the HD up locally to browse it for old files I'm fine with it but when locally looking at the folders on the external HD over USB I get a small red badge icon on the folder with a "-" sign in it as well as not being able to open any of the folders. What gives?

Is there a security setting on the folders? It's all my data from the same machine. How can I get these folders to open?

Always use or check Time Machine backups through the Time Machine app.
Opening and mucking about with them in Finder can corrupt the lot.
